Sports Physiotherapy is a branch of Physiotherapy that deals with injuries and issues related to various sports. Each sport will generally require a higher level of demand placed upon the sportsperson and their tissues. This increases the stresses to muscles, joints and bones, which in turn can cause acute, chronic and overuse injuries. Sporting injuries can occur at any level of competition and in sports men and women of all ages. Generally, treatments consist of assessing injuries or weaknesses and then assisting the sports person to recover from injuries, provide preventative education and resources to reduce risk of re-injury. Often these treatments include an exercise programme and stretches.
